Buffalo Nichols
media release: Buffalo Nichols released a new double single, “Meet Me in The Bottom/Friends,” produced by Kyp Malone. His first new music since his acclaimed 2021 self-titled debut album (Fat Possum), the two songs feature full band instrumentation and expand upon the equally captivating, more stripped-back blues and folk for which he’s become known. The riotous, rollicking “Meet Me In The Bottom” howls to a close, and is a reworking of the traditional song that Nichols describes as “a classic blues song, reimagined as an action movie.” Premiering via Rolling Stone, “Friends” is an evocative, cinematic original underscored by a swell of strings. Nichols explains “[“Friends”] contains a plea for understanding from a highly anxious and isolated person.” Both songs are available now via Fat Possum.
The “Meet Me In The Bottom / Friends” double single arrives in celebration of the one-year mark of Buffalo Nichols’ debut. In addition to making his network television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Milwaukee-based artist earned glowing press around the album from outlets including NPR Music (Tiny Desk (Home) Concert), Rolling Stone ('The Fight to Reclaim the Blues' feature and ‘Song You Need To Know’), Bandcamp Daily (‘October Shortlist’), GRAMMY.com, Guitar World, Texas Monthly, Acoustic Guitar, Austin Chronicle, No Depression, Premier Guitar, Uncut (UK), Mojo (UK), and many more. This year, he also performed at Newport Folk, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, SXSW, and Summerfest, among other festivals.
