press release: Madison Community Discourse proudly hosts an annual call to artists for HAPPINESS. The call is open through March 25, 2017 for the exhibition to be held in the fall of 2017. Dates to be announced on reception and official exhibition dates.
The show will be a culmination of the social study on Happiness that Madison Community Discourse has conducted in the city of Madison, Wisconsin. It is a year long study that has studied happiness through the diverse voices of the city, through art workshops, philosophical discussions, and this exhibition. MCD believes that art and discourse are the solutions for community connection. Throughout the year, there will have been over 200 interviews collected, 24 different art workshops hosted, and events to act as a catalyst for that connection.
HAPPINESS will include a juried show of work from established artists throughout the Midwest. We are accepting one piece from each artist in this group show. 15-20 pieces will be accepted total. All mediums are accepted including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, design, glass, metalwork, photography, video, mixed media and installation art.
The exhibition’s mission is for participants to examine their own experiences and those experiences around them. It is important to note that we are including the spectrum of happiness within this show. Whether a participant or artist is visually articulating elation or depression, it is all within the scale and offers to the greater dialogue on happiness. These vulnerabilities shared connect the community through this collective experience.
