Capital Area Regional Planning Commission

media release: PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission will hold a public hearing convening at 6:00 PM, December 12, 2024, for the purpose of public input on proposed amendments to the Dane County Water Quality Plan:

- revising the sewer service area boundary in the Central Urban Service Area, requested by the town of Westport. The proposed amendment is currently in the town of Westport, and within Lake Mendota-Yahara River (HUC 12: 070900020604) watershed. It includes the addition of approximately 2 acres of land, including approximately 2 acres of existing development and right-of-way, for a net of no new developable acres to the Central Urban Service Area.

- revising the sewer service area boundary and environmental corridors in the Central Urban Service Area, requested by the city of Middleton. The proposed amendment is currently in the town of Springfield, and within the Pheasant Branch (HUC 12: 070900020603) watershed. It includes the addition of approximately 68 acres of land, including approximately 33 acres of proposed environmental corridors, and 4 acres of existing development and right-of-way, for a net of approximately 64 developable acres to the Central Urban Service Area.

A public hearing will also be held on amendment of the 2025 Capital Area Regional Planning Commission budget will be conducted at the CARPC meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2024, convening at 6:00 pm for the purpose of public comment on the Commission’s proposed 2024 budget. The draft document is available in hard copy upon request and may be downloaded from CARPC’s website (capitalarearpc.org/meetings/). Written comments should be forwarded to the CARPC office by Monday, December 9, 2024, and may be submitted by email to tanyas@capitalarearpc.org

This meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom and may also have an in-person component (subject to change, refer to final agenda). Via Zoom, you may participate in the meeting from your computer, tablet, or smartphone by using the URL on the meeting agenda, which is typically posted the week before the meeting and can be found on the Meeting Information page of the CARPC website. Communities are encouraged to notify potentially affected property owners in their communities about the public hearing. This amendment satisfies the policies and criteria for a minor sewer service area amendment. Therefore, the Commission may act on this amendment at this Commission meeting.

Written comments may be mailed to the CARPC office by December 2, 2024, or may be submitted by e-mail to tanyas@capitalarearpc.org by December 11, 2024.
