Capital Area Regional Planning Commission
Monthly meetings currently take place in a hybrid form, at the CARPC office when possible and on Zoom; for instructions: capitalarearpc.org/meetings.
media release: PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission will hold a public hearing convening at 6:00 PM, July 11, 2024, via Zoom and in person at the Village Hall in Cottage Grove, WI for the purpose of public input on a proposed amendment to the Dane County Water Quality Plan revising the point discharge locations of treated effluent from the Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant, requested by the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD). Currently, treated effluent from MMSD’s operations is returned to two local streams (Outfall 001 is to Badfish Creek and Outfall 005 is to Badger Mill Creek). The proposed amendment will cease to return effluent to Outfall 005 to comply with phosphorus requirements. The application has or soon will be posted on the Service Area Amendment page of the CARPC website.
This meeting will be conducted virtually via Zoom and may also have an in-person component (subject to change, refer to final agenda). Via Zoom, you may participate in the meeting from your computer, tablet, or smartphone by using the URL on the meeting agenda, which is typically posted the week before the meeting and can be found on the Meeting Information page of the CARPC website. If you need other accommodation to attend the meeting, please call Tanya Sime at 608 509 6025.
Communities are encouraged to notify potentially affected property owners in their communities about the public hearing. There will also be another opportunity for public comment when the Commission acts on this amendment at the August 8, 2024, Commission meeting.
Written comments may be mailed to the CARPC office by July 1, 2024, or may be submitted by e-mail to
tanyas@capitalarearpc.org by July 10, 2024.
For information or questions on the proposed amendment, you may contact Nick Bower at nickb@capitalarearpc.org or 608 474 6019.
