press release: The Madison Public Library is celebrating Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. On May 18, 2019 Namaste Madison and Karmicflower Dance Company present, “Celebrating the Ten Avatars (Dashavatar): An Indian Mythology of Evolution” at the Central Library. There will be an exhibition of 10 primary avatars of Vishnu, the Hindu god of preservation, depicted through six-foot-tall poster cutouts and each with a descriptive text alongside. This is the second event organized by Namaste Madison, sponsored by the Madison Public Library Foundation. Last year’s Namaste Madison event was attended by approximately 400 people and was well-received by the community and the press.
The “Celebrating the Ten Avatars (Dashavatar): An Indian Mythology of Evolution” event is free and will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2019 from 1pm – 4pm at Madison’s Central Library, 201 W Mifflin St, Madison, WI 53703.
Event highlights:
- 10 - six-foot tall poster exhibit of “Dashavatar”
- Indian dance performances
- Artistic demonstration of Rangoli and Kolam - decorative designs made on floors
- Indian food sampling
