Press release:
One-day Civil War Training Camp Educational Program for Kids
The Mount Horeb Area Historical Society (MHAHS) is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the close of the American Civil War with a Civil War-themed weekend of activities on June 6 and 7, 2015. The planned events include a children’s day camp on Saturday June 6 and a free outdoor concert on June 7. For the Civil War camp on Saturday, we are looking for soldiers ages 8 to 12 to take part in a one-day Civil War Training Camp educational program. The camp will take place on Saturday, June 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Grundahl Park in Mount Horeb. Only 30 recruits will be accepted, with reservations currently being taken and accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the roster is full. A nonrefundable fee of $40 covers lunch and all camp supplies, including a Union soldier’s hat, haversack, wooden musket, canteen and other activity materials—all of which will go home with soldiers at the end of the day. The concert on Sunday, June 7, will feature the acclaimed 1st Brigade Band at 1 p.m. at the future site of the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society’s Heritage Center, 106 S. Second St. in Mount Horeb (directly across from the Grumpy Troll Pub & Brewery). Guests are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets.
