(2021 pick) Beginning as a duo project of former Sticky Fingers members Michael Bryant and Tracy Jane Comer, Common Chord quickly grew into a quintet with the addition of Faye Bruggink, Bruce Buttel and Delores Jenison. Together, the band brings some serious multi-instrumental chops and winning vocal harmonies to a wide range of material, from folk to the Great American Songbook to classic rock. For this concert they'll mix in some holiday music, both familiar, newly arranged, and newly composed by Common Chord members.
press release: Start your holidays on a high note! Folk/Americana group Common Chord continues their annual tradition of sharing holiday music while raising funds for a local charity. Sing along with some holiday classics and hear some new holiday music too, while you enjoy some great beverages and food and support a very worthwhile cause as the Brink Lounge presents Common Chord in a benefit concert for Little John’s.
Common Chord performs originals from three writers in the group plus their spin on tunes from the likes of The Grateful Dead, Traveling Wilburys, Paul Simon, Gershwin, Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, The Beatles, and more. Their unique harmony-packed arrangements are backed by a soundscape that includes guitars, bass, mandolin, fiddle, clarinets, percussion, and sometimes banjo, cello, hammered dulcimer, and keyboard. They offer a fun-filled presentation that appeals to audiences of all ages. The group has published two full-length albums; a self-titled release in 2017 and a follow-up in 2020 entitled Dig A Little Deeper. For more about Common Chord see https://www.commonchord.us
Little John’s Restaurant is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit currently headquartered in Verona, Wisconsin. Little John's is the community's kitchen, partnering with farmers, producers, suppliers, and grocery stores to transform food excess which would otherwise be disposed of into accessible, chef-quality meals for everyone, regardless of their means. They produce around 15,000 meals per week for schools, senior centers, shelters, Meals on Wheels, and others.
Little John's hope is to eliminate shame around food access, creating a consumer experience that is the same for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic status.
Joel Girard, Chief Culinary Officer for Little John’s, says, "I'm very excited about this concert. We're so thankful to Common Chord and The Brink Lounge! Community support like this makes it possible for Little John's to keep providing feel good food to everyone."
The concert starts at 7 pm on December 8, 2022, at The Brink Lounge in Madison, WI. The show is open to the public (under 21 must be accompanied by parent/guardian) and admission is simply a donation, of any amount, to Little John’s. Donations may be made by check on site, or online at any time before the show (an email will be sent following online donation and you can simply show that receipt at the door).
