This fundraiser to combat Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology (CKDu), one of the leading public health problems in Sri Lanka, will include making an earth mandala, Sri Lankan and Tibetan food, Sri Lankan dancers, local musicians, henna artists and a Buddhist meditation.
press release: We are throwing a community fundraiser on October 29th at The Farley Center for Peace and Justice. The $ will support CKDu prevention in Sri Lanka, a deadly epidemic facing 10,000's of small farmers. Included in that is the support of a organic farm training center and supporting students on our Quest study abroad programs at UW - Madison.
Our main attraction will be constructing an all Earth-made art mandala, created by the people who show up. It will feature Sri Lankan and Tibetan food, Sri Lankan dancers, local musicians, Henna artists, kids mandala coloring area, and the day will conclude with a meditation around the mandala lead by a member of the Buddhist community.
