Community Thanksgiving
Delta Beer Lab
It’s only fitting that on a holiday that is meant to give thanks for the harvest, the “haves” make sure that those who have not can also relish the traditional Turkey Day meal. There are various options. Delta Beer Lab’s community Thanksgiving is a traditional turkey dinner served cafeteria style, from 3-5 p.m. The first 150 people to call Delta at 608-640-4500 or register here will be prioritized for food, others will be admitted after. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5701 Raymond Road, hosts its traditional free Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. No RSVP necessary. Slice's Bar & Grill serves a traditional Thanksgiving dinner either carryout or dine-in buffet; call the bar at 608-243-6925 to reserve a meal. Free, but donations are appreciated and will go to the Goodman Food Pantry. Check Facebook for serving times. Lakeview Lutheran Church, 4001 Mandrake Road, is serving Thanksgiving dinner at noon; RSVP 608-244-6181. And Luke House, 310 S. Ingersoll St., hosts a Thanksgiving meal from 4-5 p.m.
media release: Come join us for a heartwarming Thanksgiving celebration at Delta Beer Lab!
This Thanksgiving we are celebrating community, diversity, and good food. We'll be opening the taproom to all who choose to celebrate. You're welcome if you are on your own or your group needs a home. The taproom will be open from 1:00-7:00pm with food being served from 3:00-5:00pm. The first 150 people to call or register via Eventbrite will be first in line for food, everyone else will be admitted after they have gone through the line.
This event is free to attend, with donations encouraged. Proceeds will be donated to one of our many deserving local Nonprofit Partners. Any leftovers will also be donated to a local shelter.
This year’s Thanksgiving feast will be provided thanks to donations from a variety of local Madison establishments: Salvatore’s Tomato Pies, Cooper’s Tavern / Food Fight Restaurant Group, Johnny's Italian Steakhouse in Middleton, Kwik Trip Sun Prairie, Liberty Station Madison, Lee Kampa Mortgage, Bloom Bakeshop, Vicki Cookies, Cherie Gon, Stalzy’s Deli, Hubbard Avenue Diner, Bloom Bake Shop, Green Owl Restaurant, LT’s Aloha Wagon, Banzo.
“We have received so many donations from friends and guests,” said Speedy. “This event would not be possible without all of the good will from our Delta Beer Lab family.”
In addition, we would be remiss to not mention the dark history surrounding this holiday and the fact that we live on stolen lands. Our brewery sits on the original homelands of the Ho-Chunk, Sauk-Meskwaki, Peoria, Miami, and Sioux Nations. We choose to acknowledge this history, the true past, and the cultural richness that these peoples have shown and continue to offer to our community.
In celebrating this holiday we do not choose to celebrate the dark and brutal history that has attempted to wipe these cultures from the narrative, but we are choosing to celebrate community, diversity, togetherness, and good food.
To quote the Sioux Chef Sean Sherman from his Time article [The Thanksgiving Tale We Tell Is a Harmful Lie. As a Native American, I’ve Found a Better Way to Celebrate the Holiday]:
"The thing is, we do not need the poisonous “pilgrims and Indians” narrative. We do not need that illusion of past unity to actually unite people today. Instead, we can focus simply on values that apply to everybody: togetherness, generosity, and gratitude."
We are looking forward to celebrating with you
