Criminal Justice Reform: What’s Next at the Federal Level?

press release: Ayesha Rascoe of National Public Radio, UW–Madison’s Spring 2019 Public Affairs Journalist in Residence, will present Criminal Justice Reform: What’s Next at the Federal Level? at 5 p.m. Monday, February 11. The hour-long event at the Discovery Building, 330 N. Orchard Street, will include time for audience questions.

A White House reporter for National Public Radio (NPR), Rascoe previously covered the White House for Reuters. She has chronicled President Barack Obama’s final year in office and now, President Trump.

Rascoe will discuss her work on the Trump administration’s push for criminal justice reform, including clemency and the First Step Act as well as Trump’s mixed support for due process. She began her career at Reuters, covering energy and environmental policy news, including the 2010 BP oil spill and the U.S. response to the Fukushima nuclear crisis in 2011. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Howard University (2007).

Rascoe will be on campus from Monday, February 11 through Thursday, February 14 as the Public Affairs Journalist in Residence, which is sponsored by University Communications, the La Follette School, and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, with support from the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association.
