Cults
Cults has never been afraid of letting their freak flag fly high. The New York indie pop duo of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion used footage from the Jonestown massacre in their first video, showing a certain amount of fearlessness. And they just released a new album, Offering, which takes some of its influence from ’80s power poppers like The Cars and The Motels — helping grow Cults’ sound into a more anthemic direction. With Cullen Omori (ex-Smith Westerns) and Hideout.
$18 ($15 adv.; ages 18+).
press release: Cults note, "'I Took Your Picture' was inspired by falling into a deeper love with '80s power pop bands like The Motels and The Cars. It's a song about fleeting moments and how we let past feelings interrupt the possibility for good things to happen. 'Tinge of blue, to the end, left our hearts, with regrets, I'm learning.' It's a daily struggle to try and stay open and available but it's probs worth it. And you can dance to it!
