Cyrus Grace Dunham
Central Library 201 W. Mifflin St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
The startlingly intimate genderqueer coming-of-age memoir A Year Without a Name recounts 27-year-old Cyrus Grace Dunham’s psychological (and physical) transition from “Grace” to “Cyrus.” The emotional confusion began as a child and eventually erupted into bouts of gender dysphoria, severe alienation, perplexing relationships, obsessive-compulsive disorder and debilitating anxiety. The book culminates in Dunham’s top surgery, yet the author’s journey is far from over. As Dunham writes in the first sentence: “I could try to tell a story that ends with resolution, but the only way to succeed would be to lie.” A Year Without a Name is on several publications’ most-anticipated-fall-books lists.
