May 9:
Patrick Miles, County Board Supervisor and Chair, now serves as County Executive following County Executive Parisi’s resignation on May 3rd. Chad Kemp, County Board Supervisor (District 32) and First Vice-Chair, has assumed the role of County Board Chair.
Regarding this temporary shift of positions, Supervisor Kemp remarked, “I am filled with excitement as I look forward to embracing and assuming the substantial and meaningful responsibilities that come with the esteemed position of County Board Chair during this interim period.”
Prior to Parisi’s resignation, Chair Miles appointed a new Supervisor for District 7, Erin Welsh. She will be sworn in at the Board meeting this evening. She stated, “I am truly honored for the opportunity to represent District 7 and look forward to collaborating with fellow supervisors to move Dane County forward."
Lastly, the Dane County Board of Supervisors recognizes this month to be both Mental Health Awareness and National Foster Care month.
Supervisor Rick Rose (District 16) said of National Foster Care month, “Imagine a child facing a world of uncertainty alone. Now imagine that child finding warmth, stability, and even love in a foster home. That's the power of foster care. I have been fortunate to work with many foster families here in Dane County as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, and by supporting them, we rewrite the stories of vulnerable children, one caring gesture at a time."
Supervisor Aaron Collins (District 10) added, “With over 350,000 children in foster care in the United States, and 7,000 right here in Dane County, we need to work to provide a safe and supportive home for all of these children to help them reach their full potential. Foster Care Month is a time to acknowledge the thousands of children and youth in foster care as well as all of the people that help find these supportive and safe homes for children,” said County Board Supervisor Aaron Collins.”
As for Mental Health Awareness month recognition, Supervisor Jackson (District 26) stated, “Mental health awareness month is an opportunity to highlight mental health issues, reduce stigma, encourage conversations, promote understanding, and promote the well-being of all residents. We need to educate people about mental health and the importance of seeking help when needed while increasing access to services and support for all.
The County Board meeting will take place at 7:00pm in a hybrid format. Members of the public interested in attending, or registering to speak can find the information to do so on the top of the agenda: https://dane.legistar.com/
