Dane County Watershed Network Gathering
Central Library 201 W. Mifflin St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
Watershed Network Gathering (WNG) scheduled on Tuesday, June 16th from 6-8 p.m. at Madison’s Central Public Library (201 W. Mifflin St., Madison, WI 53703). Engaging citizens to protect lakes, streams, wetlands and watersheds often requires asking individuals to change existing behaviors or adopt new ones. However, actually motivating behavior change takes more than just increased knowledge and awareness. A slew of factors influence the habits we form and actions we take.
Social marketing is a tool to encourage behavior change. It uses marketing principles and techniques to influence a target audience to modify, adopt or reject behavior for the benefit of themselves, their communities and society as a whole.
At this Watershed Network Gathering, we will learn about the factors that influence behavior change and how watershed groups can use social marketing to engage citizens and achieve their desired water quality goals. A social marketing project conducted with the Friends of Lake Wingra will serve as a case study.
