The New Orleans Tribute with Leroy Jones

A Nutcracker of a different variety has joined Madison's roster of holiday traditions: Trombonist Darren Sterud and his big band's annual concert featuring Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn's jazz suite drawn from Tchiakovsky's ballet. New Orleans trumpet master Leroy Jones will again join the Darren Sterud Orchestra, and the evening also includes sets by Helen & Anthony and the Sun Prairie Jazz Ensemble 1. Planning ahead was a good move since this concert sold out well ahead of time. However, there may be a few tickets remaining to catch Jones joining the Darren Sterud Quintet the following night (Dec. 17, North Street Cabaret) to put some swing into holiday songs and other material.

Leroy Jones is a Grammy Award winning trumpet player, having played with Harry Connick Jr, since the late 80's. Recently inducted in the Preservation Hall of Fame in New Orleans, Leroy also has a new documentary out called A Man And His Trumpet, which can be streamed on Amazon. 

Leroy will return this Holiday season on December 16, to perform with the DSO, as the soloist for Duke Ellington's Iconic Nutcracker Suite at Garver Feed Mill. Tickets can be found here! They are going quickly so don't wait! They have several different levels of tickets this year, including a meet and greet and a post concert hang with live music. We will do a special Run out concert December 15 at UW Platteville! 

 We will also have SANTA, pre concert music by The Feestet Duo, meet the artist preshow talk and mingle, The Sun Prairie Jazz Ensemble 1 and other very special guests that will be announced at a later date!

Tickets are on sale. We recommend making your plans and buying tickets early as this show sells out quickly. We were able to add a few last minute tickets last year, but we will be unable to do that this year.

Ticket categories this year are as follows: General Admission: $25; GA (Under 17) $15; Kids 2 and under : Free; Premium Reserved: $35

Pre concert Meet and Greet: $25 (This will include pre concert wine and appetizers, meet soloists of the DSO and guest artist, enjoy a pre concert talk about the evolution of DSO and the holiday show. This will take place from 6-7:15PM, prior to the concert. You will also be invited to a post concert hang with band members in the back bar, including music from The Feestet Duo.)
