In 2019, Lowery began releasing a series of loosely autobiographical albums, including In The Shadow of the Bull (2019), Leaving Key Member Clause (2021), and Vending Machine (2023). These albums are currently available in physical formats and are available to stream and download directly through David’s site here. Originally intended as an experiment, the limited release strategy generated revenues that far exceeded what would be expected from a streaming release. Thus, Lowery has continued in this manner, as apparently in the streaming age, less is more.
David will be performing many of these newer autobiographical songs in his set, as well as some songs from both Cracker and CVB's expansive careers (18 studio albums, collectively - stretching from CVB's 1985 auspicious and mind-blowingly eclectic debut, Telephone Free Landslide Victory, to Cracker's acclaimed 2014 double LP, Berkeley To Bakersfield - their ode to both northern California's edgier-rock scene and the country-western music that emanated from further down state).
In addition to his lengthy musical career, Lowery is also a senior lecturer on music business at the University of Georgia: Athens, and has been a champion of artists' rights since the rise of online streaming services; ultimately settling a class action lawsuit with Spotify in 2017, where the streaming giant agreed to set up a fund of over $40 million to compensate affected songwriters and publishers. But for this one special night, it will be all about David's vast, 40-year songbook - one that's proved to be the soundtrack of, at least, a couple of generations' lives.
