Design MMoCA on view Saturday, April 30-Sunday, May 8 EVENT
The museum will host the fifth biennial Design MMoCA from April 30– May 8, 2016. This event gives designers from a variety of disciplines the power to break free from routine and produce one-of-a-kind design installations inspired by works from the museum’s permanent collection. See how these creative professionals use the museum’s art to influence their thinking and push themselves to Break the Pattern. Installations created by Design MMoCA participants will be exhibited in the museum’s galleries and lobby for 9 days, open free to the public. During the event, the museum will also host a variety of related activities, including a public meet-and-greet with the designers, gallery talks, and more.
Past participants have created a wide variety of installations including rich interior spaces, interactive digital design projects, and products—real and imagined—from industrial design firms. The 2016 Design MMoCA participants represent the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and interior, graphic, industrial, fashion, and textile design. Participants include Ayres Associates; Chapa Design + TheoryThree Interactive; Credo; Cricket Design Works; Design Concepts, Inc.; Jordan D. Gehman; Karina Cutler-Lake; Mali Mrozinski; OPN Architects; Strang, Inc.; Wei Dong; Yeonhee Cheong; and Yifei Zha + Kyle Neuser.
