FRZN Fest: Destroyer, Mega Bog, Okey Dokey
This year’s FRZN fest, spanning three nights and two venues, is hot! Both the High Noon Saloon and the Majestic are packed with quality acts all weekend long. Thursday’s High Noon Saloon set from Shredders, part of Minneapolis’ Doomtree Collective, is bound to be amazing. Friday’s High Noon headliner, Destroyer, is one of indie rock’s best and most unheralded bands, featuring indomitable frontman and songwriter Dan Bejar. On Saturday, we think it’s a toss-up between the two venues. Majestic’s headliner is Poliça, an excellent Minneapolis synth-pop group. But at High Noon, you get Hinds, a spectacular Spanish garage-pop outfit. No matter what you choose, this year’s FRZN Fest is a musical winter wonderland.
FRZN Fest. $18 ($16 adv.; ages 18+).
press release: Destroyer has released a new video for "Stay Lost," from the ken album.
“Stay Lost” by Destroyer
"Rich and ornate, the music of Dan Bejar with Destroyer is hardly simple but always fabulous." - Pitchfork
"Bejar is a uniquely beguiling songwriter: personal but not confessional, political but not propagandistic, psychedelic but not a dope about it." - Spin
“Destroyer is a one-man indie band designed to pleasantly disorient people... His lyrics are collages of everyday language.” - New York Times Magazine
"[ken] finds Bejar going full synth-pop, though still being thoroughly Destroyer. These songs might shimmer and glisten, but they aren't romantic throwbacks; Bejar still sings like the kind of guy who always travels with two packs of smokes and a flask of whiskey in his pocket. It's an addicting record that features some of Bejar's sharpest writing." - Stereogum
