Description: The UW-Madison Ceramics Program turns 105 this year. Dirty Work displays a collection of ceramics produced by advanced students enrolled in the fall semester at the Art Lofts Gallery. Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student work will range from functional to sculptural, exploring the variety of possibilities in clay. Coiling, pinching, carving, throwing, slab building, and mold making are techniques utilized to create pieces that fit each student’s individual aesthetic. Advanced students are taught to develop their own visual language while building a knowledge base in clay mixing, glaze formulation as well as firing techniques. Clay presents challenges that inform the process by which works are made.
