press release: The Wisconsin State Council on Affirmative Action is pleased to announce the State of Wisconsin 2016 Diversity Awards winners. Awards are given in two categories:
1) The Diversity Award - for state agencies and universities (employee emphasis)
2) The Ann Lydecker Educational Diversity Award - for state universities (student emphasis)
The 2016 Diversity Award goes to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, for its development of a training program using technology to increase accessibility and the training experience for employees that are blind, visually impaired, deaf, or hard of hearing.
The 2016 Ann Lydecker Educational Diversity Award goes to the Fox Valley Technical College, for its strong commitment to advance students of color with its Scholars for Success Program.
Program Achievement mentions will go to the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
In all, the Council received eight submissions for the awards this year. Criteria for the annual award include a measureable demonstration of initiatives and practices that have led to the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce or student body. Target diverse groups include: racial and ethnic minorities; women; and people with disabilities.
This year’s winners will be celebrated at the Council’s annual Diversity Awards Ceremony at the Wisconsin State Capitol Senate Parlor on Thursday, October 27, 2016, beginning with a reception at 12:30 pm, followed by an official awards presentation at 1:00 pm. The guest speaker will be Secretary Raymond Allen from the Department of Workforce Development. The public is invited to attend.

The Council established the Diversity Award program in 2000 to recognize the achievements of outstanding Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action (AA) practices among state agencies and University of Wisconsin system campuses.
