This Polish-born couple, now living in Germany, presents imaginative interpretations of classical works, adapted for piano and acoustic guitar. Joanna Ziemska (piano) and Maciej Ziemski (guitar) take pieces from composers like Chopin and Piazolla and strip them to their cores, magnifying the emotional currents of each composition in the process.

press release: DUO KLAVITARRE is a married couple of musicians - Joanna Ziemska playing piano and Maciej Ziemski on acoustic guitar, both from Poland where they studied at Lodz Academy of Music and now they are based in Bremen, Germany. They have been performing as a duo for last 15 years, touring around the world, including several tours in the U.S. They are also the organizers of the International Guitar Chamber Festival in Bremen, Germany (Hanseatischer Musikpreis Kammermusik mit Gitarre) and directors of the own music school, ConTakte, also in Bremen.
They are a very unusual duo in the world of classical music as they present their unique interpretations of classical masterpieces on piano and acoustic guitar which allows them to surprise their audience with a remarkable performances where virtuosity meets true passion of some of the most beautiful compositions of the classical musical heritage. They will perform works by following composers: Frederic Chopin, Astor Piazzolla, Ignacy Paderewski, Luigi Boccherini, Karol Szymanowski, Gerard Schwertberger, Stanislaw Moniuszko, Grazyna Bacewicz and Roland Dyens.
Their first concert in Madison will be also part of a celebration of Polish Heritage Month in October. This unique event became only possible thanks to a close collaboration between Cafe Coda, Mad-PolKA Productions and Polish Heritage Club in Madison and with a very generous financial assistance from an anonymous donor and a supporter of Polish cultural events in Madison.
