media release: The annual Memorial Day Observance will take place on Monday, May 27, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Fitchburg Fire Station 1, 5791 Lacy Road. The event has been moved indoors due to the forecasted weather.
This year’s keynote speaker is Sergeant Johnathan Parker, Fitchburg Police Department and K-9 handler, former Enlisted Infantryman in the 101st Airborne Division, 2/502 Infantry Regiment. Sergeant Parker also served in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2007-2009). Sergeant Parker chose “The People Behind the Heroes” for his keynote theme.
Brooklyn/Oregon American Legion Post 160 and the Oregon/Brooklyn VFW Post 10272, along with members from the Fitchburg Police Department Color Guard, will provide the military ceremony upon completion of the keynote speech from Sergeant Parker. Mr. James Foseid, Commander CH 165, Military Order of the Purple Heart, and 2-time Purple Heart recipient, will present the Bob Schley Memorial Wreath.
We are requesting that those who wish to attend the service in-person to please bring your own chair. In the event of inclement weather, the program will take place at Fitchburg Fire Station 1, 5791 Lacy Road.
