Footwork DJing
UW Helen C. White Hall 600 N. Park St., Madison, Wisconsin
press release: Chicago DJ Sirr Tmo (Reginald Cosper Jr.) has been expanding the craft since his early teens with the TekLife DJ Crew and dancers at legendary South Side venues such as Markham Skating Rink and Final Phaze Dance Studios. Sirr Tmo is a tested battle dancer and DJ who has performed for the past 15 years in the underground 'Footwork' and 'Juke' house music style. He returns to the U.S. from a European tour for this Black Arts + Data Futures workshop. Footwork/Juke is a maligned and misunderstood Chicago underground dance culture, that has only recently become more accepted as a form of youth empowerment. At the core of footwork music and dance is a dedication to technical physical prowess and skilled music production.
In this Borghesi-Mellon Interdisciplinary Humanities workshop, Sirr Tmo will demo the process of making footwork music — a frenetic and angular style of house that requires software literacy and performance acumen. He will walk through schematics of his tracks in Ableton Live and other digital audio software.
The free workshop will take place in Bunge Room, 4207 HC White Hall on UW Madison's campus on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 11 AM – 1 PM.
Additionally, there will be an after-party at Robinia Coutyard on Sunday, May 5 from 8:30PM until 1:00AM featuring Sirr Tmo, SPREDTR and DJ Bruce Blaq.
Sponsored by UW's Black Arts + Data Futures workshop group.
