Tomato Preservation Workshop Series
The peak of tomato season is right around the corner, and soon the farmers' market will be loaded with vine-ripe, sweet and juicy tomatoes. But what to do with 20 pounds of tomatoes?
Join master food preserver Polly Reott of Polly Jane's Pickles and Jams as she leads the DCFM's Tomato Preservation Series in the training kitchen at FEED Kitchens, 1219 Sherman Avenue in Madison.
Our three-session series includes a demonstration of boiling water canning, a hands-on workshop where everyone participates (and leaves with a jar of tomatoes), and a demonstration of how to freeze and dehydrate tomatoes, where you'll leave with a bag ready for the freezer.
Informative hand-outs walk you through each process and help you do it correctly when you make your first batch at home.
All supplies are provided, including fresh tomatoes from the Dane County Farmers' Market. Enjoy cheese, beverages, and other refreshments provided by DCFM members during this fun learning experience.
