Friends of Glacial Heritage Area Workday
press release: The Friends of Glacial Heritage Area's Paddle Volunteer Corps will be removing fallen debris and garbage from the Bark River on Saturday, May 7 from 8 am to about noon. The Corps will work from the Cushman Road put-in south of County Rd Y to Highway 106. Volunteers should be ready to shuttle vehicles at the put-in by 7:45 am.
Anyone with canoe or kayak is welcome to help out - contact Clare at friendsofgha@gmail.com to sign up.
The Corps works throughout the GHA under the guidance of Jefferson County Parks Department to make watertrails large enough for kayak and canoe passage. At these work sessions, qualified and trained volunteers use chainsaws to cut fallen logs and branches, while others safely stack debris along the river or creek bank. Every volunteer is required to wear a personal flotation device and proper clothing for wet conditions.
