“Karen Dalton and Joanna Newsom melt together in the form of Gaelynn Lea and set about absolutely obliterating your heart.” -Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys)
“The way her voice resonates is so unusual and beautiful, like nothing I’ve ever heard before.” -Jess Wolfe (Lucius)
Classically trained violinist and songwriter Gaelynn Lea is coming to Sh*tty Barn in Spring Green, WI to play a solo set of her haunting music with special guest Dave Mehling on Wednesday, May 10th.
Gaelynn has been bewitching scores of fans with her experimental and ambient takes on fiddle music, an approach that incorporates her love of traditional tunes, songwriting, poetry and sonic exploration. Of her live performances, Gaelynn Lea said, “My aim is to create a meditative, layered sound that allows the listener’s mind to drift.”
Gaelynn’s work most recently won NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest in March of 2016, a competition drawing submissions of original songs from more than 6,000 musicians across the country. Gaelynn Lea’s musical reach quickly expanded because of the Tiny Desk Contest. She began touring nationally in September 2016, and in December 2016 she performed in Europe for the first time as support for Low’s Christmas tour. She is on another U.S. tour this May, which brings her to the state of Wisconsin for her show at Sh*tty Barn; this will be her first time performing in Spring Green.
“Touring has been a blast! My husband Paul and I have traveled to 37 states and 5 countries so far and I’ve performed over 150 shows since we hit the road back in October,” says Gaelynn. “One of my favorite parts of touring is that we’ve met a lot of wonderful people during our travels; I am looking forward to seeing many of these folks again on our May tour and meeting new people as well.”
She will be joined by special guest Dave Mehling on guitar and keyboard for this performance, which starts at 7:00pm. This show is all ages. Tickets are $20 and available online for advance purchase at http://www.shittybarnsessions.
