Heidel House Resort, Green Lake 643 Illinois Ave., Green Lake, Wisconsin 54941
Press release:
All bicycling enthusiasts – young, old, expert and novice – are invited to join Green Lake Greenways and Heidel House Resort & Spa for the 6th annual Gear Up Green Lake Fundraiser Bike Ride on Saturday, May 23.
Riders can look forward to beautiful, quiet and scenic routes from 14 to 100 miles long. The ride offers routes on low traffic, paved roads with moderate hills and rolling countryside.
Proceeds from the Gear Up Green Lake Fundraiser Bike Ride will go to future phases of Green Lake Greenways’ path project. The main goal of this project is to connect the communities of Green Lake, Ripon and Berlin with safe, multi-use paths.
Taste of Wisconsin Lunch and Afternoon Entertainment
Previously held in downtown Green Lake, the 2015 fundraiser will be amplified with hospitality provided by Heidel House Resort & Spa. The routes will begin and end at the Heidel House tent, where a Taste of Wisconsin lunch and live entertainment by Dan Braaksma Band will ensue as participants finish their rides. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Taste of Wisconsin lunch reception will include a variety of favorite Wisconsin fare, including cheese curds, cream puffs and brats.
Build-A-Bike Competition: Donate to Local Children
After the ride, 10 children from the Boys & Girls Club of the Tri-County Area will be presented with bikes of their own in a special way. Participants and community members are invited to compete in a build-a-bike competition, where 10 teams of four people each will follow clues and build a bicycle with the provided tools and equipment. They will then test the bike to ensure it is safe to ride, racing to finish before their competitors. The real winners will be the local children, who will each be presented with a bike to keep following the competition. These children have not had the opportunity to own a bike of their own.
This build-a-bike competition costs $25 per person (four people per team). Interested in forming a team? Call the Heidel House front desk at 920-294-3344.
Evening Entertainment: Kitty Corona
In the evening, riders and guests are welcome to enjoy live entertainment by Oshkosh, Wis., classic rock cover band Kitty Corona in the BoatHouse Pub from 7 to 11 p.m. An area favorite, Kitty Corona plays covers of crowd-pleasing artists: Pat Benatar, Journey, Tom Petty, Joan Jett, AC/DC and more.
