We are excited to announce our new name, Bikes for Kids Wisconsin! We have been on this two-wheeled journey since 2017 and many things have led us to this transition.
- Seeing and understanding the needs of the transportation challenged people who walk through our doors.
- Accepting the responsibility to do something about it beyond giving away free bikes.
- Recognizing that the generosity of those in Dane County has powered our expanded efforts to help those both IN and OUTSIDE our county.
- Elevating our space in the community to serve as the area's nonprofit community bike shop.
- Stepping up to provide more support and service to those we serve.
We expect 80-90% of our efforts will remain in Dane County as we manage this transition because this is where our bike shop resides. But every week, we receive calls of help from those outside our county. For example, last week we received a call from a social worker in Milwaukee County. They had clients that were experiencing a transportation crisis. Without reliable transportation, their clients could not get work or obtain needed services. So they drove to our shop to get bikes. Our name change better reflects who we are and the work that we do.
Through the incredible generosity of people in Dane County who donate their unwanted bicycles, those who volunteer for us regularly, and those who provide financial support, we have been astounded at the power of people in Dane County. Your support has allowed us to serve thousands of people in Dane County and to continue our reach throughout southern Wisconsin and to tribes in northern Wisconsin. We are SO grateful to you for your donations and efforts you so graciously provide to us. These are challenging times for many in our community and we are stepping up to serve in more ways than we've been able to in the past.
