Global Food Security: Are We Meeting the Challenge?
UW Discovery Building 330 N. Orchard St., Madison, Wisconsin 53715
The Madison Committee on Foreign Relations presents "Global Food Security: Are We Meeting the Challenge?"
Joseph Glauber, former Chief Economist, US Department of Agriculture, will discuss the challenges meeting global food needs over the next several decades. Population growth, combined with increasing incomes in key developing countries have led many analysts to conclude that we will likely see world food demand increase by as much as 75 percent by 2050. At the same time, productivity gains have slowed and farmers will be facing increased environmental challenges like water availability and climate change. Glauber will discuss the role of public research in meeting these challenges.
