He Named Me Malala
UW Union South-The Marquee 1308 W. Dayton St., Madison, Wisconsin 53715
A documentary profiling Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who spoke out against restrictions on girls’ education, survived an assassination attempt and became a Nobel Peace Prize-winning activist for women’s rights in the Third World. Director Davis Guggenheim seems determined to show how nice Malala is — which feels disappointing, considering her work is all about girls refusing simply to be “nice.” PG-13, 2015.
