Collaboration Explores Memory Through Different Media
A new collaborative visual exhibit, titled Handled | Hand [led] will be featured from Sunday, May 3 through Saturday, June 27, 2015:
In this collaboration, Holly Lukasiewicz and Leslie Iwai visually explore memories through the way they handle the very personal and human subject matter of the hand through very different mediums.
Lukasiewicz’s oil paintings are based on a series of photographs taken of friends and family’s hands. These are people she admires in how they respect and respond to those around them. These paintings are meant to share a moment of intimacy the simple act of observing, touching or holding someone’s hand relays.
Iwai was inspired to create a complementary visual that would draw others into the narrative and memories portrayed by the hands in Lukasiewicz’s paintings. The people whose hands are shown in the paintings were asked to share a memory they have of a drawer - kitchen, bedroom, dresser, desk, etc. Memories were then reinterpreted 3-dimensionally in paper and placed in a drawer. The paintings and drawers are connected by the memories of those in the paintings.
A gallery reception will be held in the Playhouse Gallery on Saturday, May 23, 2015 from 2 - 4 pm.
Overture Galleries are free and open to the public. Gallery hours: Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. – 9:00p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
