Hometown Sweethearts
High Noon Saloon 701A E. Washington Ave., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
Reunion show! 5:30 pm ($6; $12/family) and 8 pm ($10).
(past pick) The dynamic trio of Chris Boeger (bass), Scott Beardsley (drums) and Nate Palan/”Waylan Daniel” (guitar/vocals) came together as a low-key covers gig about 15 years ago. But the band’s fun approach to widely varied material and on-stage chemistry quickly made the Sweethearts one of the region’s favorite acts. While they weathered the move of Palan to the East Coast, the upcoming departure of Boeger and his family for Australia means the trio’s shows this weekend will be your last chance to hit the dance floor to their inimitable sounds.
press release: It has been a year and a half since guitarist Nate Palan, bass player Chris Boeger, and drummer Scott Beardsley have shared a stage together. The bands 15-year run came to an official halt when founder Chris Boeger moved to Australia with his wife and two children. Since then, the band members have worked on other projects in their prospective cities. Guitarist Nate Palan, who moved to New York City 10 years prior, is fronting a seven-piece cover band called The Last Nites, as well as wrapping up a college degree in film sound design and music composition. Chris Boeger has joined up with a cover band of his own called The Jimmy Sogalrey band, who has been performing in his new hometown of Brisbane, as well as all over Australia. Scott Beardsley has remained a drumming staple in the Madison music scene, primarily performing in Josh Harty’s band, The Big Tasty.
The band had an unexpected resurgence when their original song, "Blackout," recently made an appearance in the Mark Wahlberg film, Instant Family. Co-screenwriter and director of the movie Sean Anders, Wisconsin native and longtime fan of the band, made a case for the inclusion of the song in his recent film. The band was honored to lend a small part in his heartwarming and personal movie.
The Hometown Sweethearts decided to hold their reunion shows on Tuesday night as way to pay homage to their previous 5-year Tuesday night residency at the Crystal Corner Bar, considered the home base for the band.
Tickets for both April 23 shows can be purchased at www.high-noon.com.
