press release: As this year's Go Big Read book, Evicted by Matthew Desmond, shows, housing instability is an issue that deeply affects many Wisconsin residents. This resource fair will give anyone inspired to take action to change the housing situation in Madison an opportunity to talk with members of 12 local organizations that are working to help Madison residents find affordable housing and change the systems that keep affordable housing out of reach for others. These organizations include: Access to Independence, Aging and Disability Resource Center, Dryhootch, Fair Housing Center of Greater Madison, Homeless Veteran Re-integration Program - CAC and EATA partnership, Hope Haven/Catholic Charities, Movin' Out, Inc., Porchlight, Inc., Port St. Vincent de Paul, The Road Home of Dane County, WisCARES, and Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development. This event is held as part of the UW-Madison Go Big Read program and in conjunction with a film screening and discussion of 30 Seconds Away: Breaking the Cycle (6:30-8:45pm). Madison Public Library's involvement in Go Big Read is partially funded through a gift from the Friends of the Madison Public Library.
Experience the struggles of chronically homeless men in Milwaukee as a former federal agent takes you from the streets through the justice system in the film 30 Seconds Away: Breaking the Cycle.
