Human Trafficking and Labor Exploitation in Supply Chains

Ben Skinner, Madison native and award winning author of “A Crime So Monstrous”, who specializes in modern-day slavery issues, will speak on “Human Trafficking and Labor Exploitation in Supply Chains” on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Evjue Community Room, Urban League of Greater Madison/Madison South Library Building, 2222 South Park St in Madison from 6:30 –7:30 pm. The event is sponsored by SlaveFree Madison and is free and open to the public. Skinner will discuss the role of labor exploitation plays in the supply chains of many global industries. He will use as an example the human trafficking in the fishing industry. The program will help us better understand this issue and suggest how consumers can act to not support labor exploitation in the products that we purchase.
The 2015 U.S. Department of State Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report identifies 11 business sectors in which global human trafficking is likely at some point in the supply chain or production cycle: Agriculture, Construction, Electronics, Forestry, Healthcare, Hospitality, Housekeeping/Facilities Operation, Mining and Basic Metal Production, Textile and Apparel Manufacturing, Transportation, Warehousing and Fishing and Aquaculture.
