Iron Chef Cook-off

This fundraiser for the Tenant Resource Center is back. Volunteer chefs (or teams of chefs) will compete with their best recipes for 3-5 bite-sized dishes each incorporating the secret ingredient. Teams cook offsite and arrive at the event ready to serve hungry you — and a panel of celebrity judges. There’s also a "people's choice" voting component. Suggested donation is $25, but no one will be turned away. This is always good noshing and the co-housing site, 1137 Erin St., should make for good companionship while judging. More info here.

media release: Competition: Twelve volunteer chefs (or teams of chefs) will showcase their culinary prowess in a thrilling head-to-head competition. Each contender will be paired up against another, with a secret ingredient revealed to them only weeks before the event. 

Venue: The event will take place at Arboretum Cohousing, providing the perfect backdrop for a day filled with delicious food and community spirit. October 10, 2024, 5:00pm - 8:00pm

Preparation: Teams will cook offsite and arrive at the event ready to serve approximately 150 attendees.

Judging: Our panel of esteemed judges will have the honor of tasting the creations first and selecting a winner for each pair based on taste, creativity, and presentation.

People's Choice: To add some extra competition to the event, attendees will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the "people's choice" chef using their hard-earned dollar bills.

What's Involved:

Before the event, you'll craft a tantalizing "tasting menu" featuring 3-5 dishes, each incorporating the secret battle ingredient. These dishes should be served in very small portions (think: bite-sized) to over 100 eager attendees once the event kicks off. Whether your specialty lies in savory, sweet, or non-alcoholic drinks, there's room for your creativity to shine!

Important Details:

Unlike the televised version, our Iron Chef event doesn't involve on-site cooking; instead, chefs come prepared with their pre-made dishes. To help cover the cost of ingredients, we offer reimbursement of up to $150 upon submission of an itemized receipt. Alternatively, if you prefer, we can provide a letter confirming a $150 in-kind donation to the Tenant Resource Center.
