Jake La Botz
(2017 pick) Traditional blues is where former roofer and boilermaker Jake La Botz begins. Then he makes the form even darker, creating haunted, musical habitats for his spooky poetry. You have to be doing something right if your biggest fan is actor/director Steve Buscemi. It appears that in his preference for musicians, as in his selection of roles, Buscemi likes authenticity. When not making freaked out blues songs La Botz is known to appear on camera as he did in a cameo as the late Conway Twitty in a crazy, True Detective television series scene. Catch the peripatetic artist before he trades the stage for the screen—for good.
December 7, 8 pm (doors at 7) Jake La Botz, suggested donation $10
Jake La Botz returns with a new album, They're Coming for Me, the anxiously awaited (and not at all paranoid) follow-up to 2017's terrific Sunnyside. And he's bringing basement favorites drummer Alex Hall (The Flat Five) and upright bass player Beau Sample (The Fat Babies) along for the ride. La Botz is a charming and distinctive entertainer, it's always a treat to have him.
Reservations will be taken for this show at righteousmusicmgmt@gmail.com. On confirmation there is space available you can guarantee your spot by sending a check to Kiki Schueler, 1326 MacArthur Rd, Madison WI 53714.
Parking Alert: There is now no parking on either side of MacArthur Rd. I suggest parking on the very wide, curbed streets of Ellenwood and Duncan off Mendota and walking up the little path to MacArthur Ct. Google Maps says it is 0.1 miles and two minutes https://goo.gl/maps/5ZkNX from there to the house.
All shows are all ages and BYOB, I'll have coolers with ice available. As always, all money goes to the musicians.
