media release: The Joey’s Song benefit concert swings back into action on January 7, 2023, with an amazing lineup that includes the Know-It-All-Boyfriends featuring Madison’s own Butch Vig (Garbage), comedian Charlie Berens, Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum, and newly added members of Portugal. The Man. The show raises money for the fight against epilepsy in memory of Joey Gomoll who passed away at four-years-old a week short of his fifth birthday.
“Joey suffered from a debilitating form of epilepsy called Dravet Syndrome. While he couldn’t speak, he loved music and could dance and sing in his own way,” says Mike Gomoll, Joey’s Song Founder and Joey’s dad. “We celebrate Joey by sharing his love of music. Grammy winners and Top 40 artists from around the globe volunteer their time and talent to raise money for epilepsy research and programs. The show is a blast.”
The 2022 concert was postponed due to COVID. Anyone who purchased tickets for the January 2022 benefit can use them for the 2023 show. There are less than 350 tickets remaining and the performance sold out the past few years. The non-profit foundation has helped raise more than $750,000 in the fight against epilepsy, a brain disorder that causes seizures. Proceeds from the 2023 benefit will go to Epilepsy Foundation affiliates, CURE Epilepsy and Wisconsin Badger Camp.
Joey’s brother, Sam Gomoll, is also joining the impressive list of artists this year. “It means a lot to me that we’re doing this together,” says Gomoll. “Sam and I love music, and to share a moment on stage as we honor Joey will be one of the most incredible moments of my life.”
