John Grant has confirmed the first North American shows behind his upcoming album ‘Love Is Magic’ (out Oct 12 via Partisan/Bella Union). This will be Grant’s first North American headline run in over three years and will include a stop at Brooklyn’s Warsaw on Nov 30th, his biggest ever headline NYC show. Tickets go on sale this Friday Aug 10, full itinerary below.
The album’s title track earned spotlights everywhere from Pitchfork, NPR, Stereogum + more. Today, Grant has shared the song’s music video (via Billboard). Directed by Fanny Hoetzeneder, the canine-friendly clip is a snapshot of unconditional love, soundtracked by Grant’s epic electro-march. Grant says of the video, “Fanny’s video is a beautiful snapshot of unconditional love. But obviously there is still a lot of work involved. At least on the dog’s part."
"Love is Magic" by John Grant
‘Love Is Magic’ was produced by Grant alongside analogue synth expert/collector Benge and Paul Alexander of Midlake. The album fully embraces electronic music in its many forms in a way Grant has only flirted with previously, jumping from '80s glimmer pop to cheeseball serenades to vitriolic political commentary.
Paul Alexander, the bassist from Denton prog-folk voyagers Midlake, will release his debut album as Two Medicine, titled Astropsychosis, on November 2, 2018 via Bella Union.
Having played a key creative role in the recording of John’s Grant’s new album, Love Is Magic, Alexander will be joining his label mate on his North American tour this winter. Two Medicine will tour as a duo, with vocalist Aimee Adams making up the numbers.
