press release: Scholarship Opportunity: Up to 100K to support (tuition/room/board/books)
One Boys & Girls Club member will win up to $100K in scholarships for college over the next 4 years from the John & Jo Ellen McKenzie Boys & Girls Club College Fund
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Write an essay 1,000 words or less on why you deserve this scholarship. Essay should highlight how you will impact the community while in college and upon completion
- Must be a BGC of Dane County Member by time of application submission; provide a current academic transcript in High School; must have two letters of recommendation from either a school teacher, coach, community leader or employer
- Send all applications and supporting documents to Langston Evans at levans@bgcdc.org by 5pm on July 15, 2015
PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO: Demonstrate financial need by addressing the topic in the essay; Demonstrate academic success, strong attendance and involvement in school activities; Must be a junior/senior in high school or an incoming freshman in college; Must be accepted in a 4 year institution by time of the award (if named the winner); Student must be enrolled immediately upon high school graduation or consecutively enrolled full-time
SELECTION PROCESS
Preference will be given to first generation college student /student who grades are in the academic middle. A selection committee will be appointed by the CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County. The Committee will make a recommendation to John & Jo Ellen McKenzie by the end of July. The winner will be named at Boys & Girls Club event in mid August.
