JVN Day Hip-Hop Festival honors First Wave student John “Vietnam” Nguyen (who died in 2012) with a weekend of events including an open mic (8 am Saturday, Aug. 27, Terrace) and graffiti art event (noon-5:30 pm Sunday, East Campus Mall). The festival ends with a concert featuring spoken word and music by SABA, Rich Robbins (pictured), Broadway, Me eN You, Heru and others.

This festival provides participants opportunities to engage the tenets of Hip-Hop culture and understand that creativity is how we best generate solutions. From movie screenings to concerts, award ceremonies, and service initiatives, JVN Day aims to manifest why we truly believe that Hip-Hop - in its raw, pre-commodified form has the unequivocal capacity to change lives. Just like John! Join us in fun, family, fellowship, music, and love out on the UW- Madison campus.
Saturday: Sunrise open mic, 8 am, Memorial Union Terrace; One Life @ the Gatekeepers, 5 pm, Discovery Building; "Showin' Out" films, 9 pm, Union South-Marquee.
Sunday: Drew It Up graffiti art, noon-5:30 pm, East Campus Mall; Concert by Saba, Zhalarina, Matan, Rich Robbins, Broadway, Quaan, Me eN You, Heru, 9 pm, Union Terrace.
