Kat and the Hurricane, CalicoLoco, Seasaw
Harmony Bar and Grill 2201 Atwood Ave., Madison, Wisconsin 53704
Britni Petitt
Kat and the Hurricane (clockwise from top center): Kat Rhapsody, Alex Nelson and Benjamin Rose.
The Harmony is now under new ownership and luckily the new operators plan to continue the tavern’s long tradition of live music in the bar's spacious showroom. Queer synth pop-rock trio Kat and the Hurricane may have the best band slogan ever: “Every genre, every gender.” Their music is lush and emotional. Calicoloco from Chicago gets glam and glitzy. And Madison’s Seasaw also knows how to dress up a pop song.
$10.
More on Seasaw:
Seasaw's new song "Cooler Than Yours" is an ode to the awesome people in this world that are actively anti-racist, feminist, LGBTQIA+ allies, and critical thinkers. Summed up in this one lyric asking 'why is it a revolution just to be a decent human' …an excellent yet sad question a lot of us ponder every day, the song applauds those that are living in a way that betters the world, making it safer and more inclusive. Hoping your best friend along with everyone else in your life encompasses the things this song is about, but if not, I must confess, my best friend is cooler than yours.
The music video for "Cooler Than Yours" by Madison based band Seasaw was shot in the Bolz Conservatory at Olbrich Botanical Gardens. Filmed after hours as the conservatory closed to the public for the day, the viewer sees the wondrous plant life in gorgeous deep green to black hues, and the two members of the band flush in reds and oranges dancing their way through this breathtaking space as the light in the conservatory slips from dusk into night.
Recorded by the band in their homes during isolation, the song was then mixed by Wisconsin native Beau Sorenson who has worked on albums by Death Cab For Cutie, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, Superchunk, and more.
