La Historia (pictured) travels north from Rockford bringing sprightly guitar rock influenced by ’90s bands such as Superchunk and Wrens — and a solid new LP, Low Mimetic, released by the band earlier in 2016. Madison popsters Automatically Yours recently made a welcome return to local stages with a reunited lineup, after prematurely leaving us in 2015. With We Should Have Been DJs.
press release: LA HISTORIA BIO: We are friends that have all been in many bands before, sometimes together. A couple notable past bands are Gods Reflex (Phil and Jesse), The Braves (Phil, Jesse, Kevin), The Moment (Phil), and State Capitals (Kevin, Luke). Gods Reflex and The Braves were both bands on the now defunct, Chicago-based label, Johann's Face Records. We formed in 2012 as we all found ourselves without bands to call home all at the same time. The music sounds heavily influenced by '90s indie rock (majors: Wrens, Superchunk, Archers of Loaf, Dischord bands, etc.) as is most of our record collections, though we all enjoy local heroes and contemporaries just as much. We began playing local shows in Rockford and writing songs in Luke's dad's hardware store after-hours in Pecatonica, Illinois. We soon recorded our first EP entitled, Awake Enough EP at Kingsize with Mike Hagler as well. Mike was an old friend of Jesse and Phil as he recorded many of the GR and Braves releases. Through 2013 and 2014 we played shows through the Midwest as our schedules allowed (full-time jobs, kids, etc.) while we wrote the songs for 'Low Mimetic'. We also graduated to a basement practice space when Phil's girlfriend bought a house in Rockford.
