press release: Madison Country Day School Theatre Department is thrilled to announce the musical production, Les Misérables on December 2 at 7 p.m. and December 3 at 3 p.m. at the Mitby Theater, 3550 Anderson Street, Madison.
According to Music Theatre International, the production is based on Victor Hugo's epic novel, Les Misérables and is an heroic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit. The epic tale of broken dreams, passion, and redemption is set against a nation in the throes of revolution. Winner of over 100 international awards and seen by over 65 million people worldwide, this is an exceptional masterpiece. MCDS Theater Director James Wagoner is excited about this production, “Les Misérables is all about how any person can rise above a bad situation and attain happiness and peace. The study, rehearsal, and performance process gave our cast an opportunity to explore the power of love, compassion, and sacrifice in the face of evil, poverty, and injustice.” Wagoner remarked this is truly a student production, “We have an incredible student-focused cast and production team with 38 actors playing over 110 roles. The student production team includes an assistant director, stage manager, assistant music director, and voice coach. Additionally, costumes, original logo, and poster were designed by a student.” Supplemental music direction and vocal coaching has been provided by Kris Warner, an MCDS music teacher. Wagoner is projecting Les Misérables to be the largest show in MCDS theatre history. “It was created by a rich and powerful student-centered process, and we look forward to sharing with our community.” The production will take place at the Mitby Theater, a contemporary state-of-the-art performance venue at the Madison College-Truax Campus near the Dane County Regional Airport, December 2 at 7 p.m. and December 3 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and available at the door.
