Li Chiao-Ping Dance

press release: Li Chiao-Ping Dance (LCPD) and the UW-Madison Dance Department present "Weight of Things" at the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space in Lathrop Hall November 17-19, 2016. This concert brings together a diverse, internationally acclaimed group of artists, including flutist Laura Falzon, visual artist Douglas Rosenberg, and textile design artist, Meeta Mastani who, together, will take audiences on a highly visual and metaphoric journey that tackles the weighty issues of our environment and our souls.

Li will present a new ensemble piece titled "Weight of Things" (after which the concert is named). This collaborative work considers consumption, what we say we need, want, and desire. The program also features a multifaceted work created by Li in collaboration with Meeta Mastani, UW-Madison Arts Institute's Fall 2016 artist-in-residence, that explores the temporality of human existence.

Guest artist Laura Falzon will perform Eve Beglarian’s evocative music “I will not be sad in this world” for Li’s "Tendrils" and Douglas Rosenberg presents disturbing and powerful video projection for Li’s solo work "The Land Within" which will also be performed by Li.

The concert opens Thursday, November 17 at 8pm, with additional shows Friday, November 18 at 8pm, and Saturday, November 19 at 2:30pm. A special free performance local youth will take place Friday morning, as part of Li Chiao-Ping Dance Company's community outreach initiative, "Dance For Young Audiences."

Tickets are $15 for the students and seniors and $20 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Campus Arts Box Office, online at www.uniontheater.wisc.edu, or by phone at 608.265.ARTS. Tickets will also be for sale one hour before the performances at Lathrop Hall.
