media release: Sun Prairie Civic Theatre promises to delight audiences with a blend of humor, horror and heartwarming moments with its production of the sci-fi, cult classic musical “Little Shop of Horrors.” Performances will take place on April 26, April 27, May 3, and May 4 at 7 p.m., with a matinee on May 5 at 2 p.m. All shows will be held at the Central Heights Middle School Theater, located at 220 Kroncke Drive in Sun Prairie.

 "Little Shop of Horrors" tells the story of Seymour Krelborn, a hapless floral assistant who, during a solar eclipse, discovers a mysterious plant with a craving for human blood. As the plant, named Audrey II, grows larger and demands more, Seymour finds himself entangled in a darkly comedic tale of love, ambition and morality.

Tickets for the performances are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors (60 years and above) and active military personnel, and $15 for youth under 18 and full-time undergraduate students. Attendees can purchase tickets in advance at www.sunprairicivictheatre.com or at the door prior to each performance, subject to availability.

Director Colin Loeffler, who grew up and lives in Sun Prairie, along with more than 30 volunteers from Sun Prairie and surrounding communities, are involved in bringing the production to life on stage. The cast features Reese Clostermery from Cottage Grove as Seymour and Kaleigh Prange from Columbus as Audrey. They are joined on stage by actors from Madison, Verona, Stoughton, and Arlington.

“‘Little Shop of Horrors’ is a delightful homage to the quirky, campy charm of sci-fi B movies," says Loeffler. “And the fact that we’re staging the play weeks after a solar eclipse, which is when Seymour first finds our man-eating plant in the story, adds to the production in a tongue-in-cheek, hilariously sinister way.”

With a book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, “Little Shop of Horrors” is based on the film by Roger Corman and screenplay by Charles Griffith. It was originally produced by the WPA Theatre (Kyle Renick, Producing Director). And originally produced at the Orpheum Theatre, New York City by the WPA Theatre, David Geffen, Cameron Mackintosh and the Shubert Organization.
