Music Theatre of Madison
press release: Music Theatre of Madison, a small professional theater company finishing its twelfth season, will present its second-ever Festival of New Musicals from October 5-November 2, 2017. The Festival, which contains three musicals still in development, will feature Madison actors reading and singing the material, followed by talkbacks with audiences to be shared with the composers. All performances will take place at The Brink Lounge, 701 E. Washington Ave, in the back event space. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person at the door. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase. Reservations are recommended and can be made at www.mtmadison.com/festival-of-new-musicals.
DUMB LUCK (October 5) is the story of inept bandit Elmer McCurdy and his journey as an abandoned corpse, told through a hilarious, country-western score.
THE PUPPET (October 19), written by Madison's own Mark Wurzelbacher, is a Gilbert and Sullivan-style imagining of the 2020 election.
MEDEA (November 2): Written by Enrique Acosta of Bakersfield, California
The classic tale of a woman scorned gets the rock treatment in this version. Filling in Jason and Medea’s early years, it traces their initial romance through their tragic downfall, with one shocking, wonderfully feminist twist. Directed by Meghan Randolph, music direction by Tyler Pimm, featuring Julia Luebke, Elan Mendez-Smith, Desmond Hawkins, and Lauren Gruber.
The Festival has a suggested donation of $10 per person. Whatever you can contribute is much appreciated and offsets the cost of compensating our artists.
