media release: The Madison Jazz Orchestra performs at Cafe Coda every third Thursday of the month.

The hottest, swingin'est jazz orchestra in southern Wisconsin, the nineteen-piece MJO performs charts from the golden era of big bands: Fletch Henderson, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Duke Ellington and more.

January: This month we move to the fourth Thursday and celebrate Melba Liston’s 100th birthday with a few of her charts for Dizzy Gillespie’s and Art Blakey’s big bands [with whom she also played trombone]. Other January birthdays that we’ll be observing include Gene Krupa [117], Roy Eldridge [115] and Django Reinhardt [116]. There will also be charts from Duke Ellington, Gordon Goodwin, Thad Jones and Rob McConnell among others.
