A message from MPL:
Although Madison Public Library locations are closed, library staff are working hard from their homes to make sure patrons can still access a wide variety of library resources.
Almost immediately following Wisconsin's Safer at Home order, the library shifted from a physical collections and programs mindset to digital collections and virtual programming. In late March, the library launched its Library @ Home website resource page. Thanks to a $50,000 grant from Madison Public Library Foundation, the library expanded its eBook and audiobook collections through OverDrive. The use of these materials is up 43 percent since the novel coronavirus was declared a pandemic.
“Necessity is the mother of invention,” Library Director Greg Mickells said. “Staff quickly developed a virtual card for those without a regular library card to access our online resources. Almost 1,500 new virtual cards have been issued, keeping more Madisonians connected to the news and engaged with the wider world.”
Library book drops will be closed, and customers are urged to keep library materials until libraries reopen. Due dates of checked out materials will be extended, and holds will be retained at libraries until libraries reopen. We are thankful to you - our library patrons – for your continued understanding and support, and encourage you to keep yourselves and your families, friends, and neighbors safe by following Public Health Madison & Dane County guidelines.
