Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR), Madison’s public recreation department, is celebrating 90 years of affordable, accessible recreation programs.
To celebrate this anniversary, MSCR has offered free monthly pontoon boat rides. The final celebration of the season takes place on Saturday, September 17 at Tenney Boat Pier, 1615 Sherman Ave. Trips take place at 1-2:30 pm and 3-4:30 pm. First come, first serve. MSCR Pontoon Trips are a great way to enjoy Madison’s lakes.

MSCR began as a one-person department organizing summer playground programs and has grown to a multi-faceted organization serving more than 119,000 participants annually. The department was established to keep young children supervised in healthy, safe and engaging activities. MSCR now provides healthy and engaging activities for all ages in a variety of program areas like arts, enrichment, adventure, afterschool programs, fitness, sports and swimming.
MSCR highlights:
--Offers afterschool programs at 17 Madison elementary schools, 12 middle schools and 4 high schools
--Operates a full range of recreation programs at the Meadowood Neighborhood Center and Warner Park Community Recreation Center
--In January, MSCR opened MSCR East, 4620 Cottage Grove Rd, a new recreation facility offering 152 activities this fall.
--Serves more than 44,471 adults in programs offered across the city
--Friends of MSCR, a non-profit organization established in 2001, is dedicated to raising funds for MSCR programs. In 2015, Friends secured nearly $70,000 for needed program supplies and scholarships. Since 2003, Friends has gifted $255,000 to MSCR.
