MAMA Cares Fundraiser

No locationpress release: If you are gigging in and around the City of Madison on May 6-8 we can help each other and a lot of our needy brothers-and-sisters-in-arms as well.
Maybe by now you’ve heard of MAMA Cares, a new program of the Madison Area Music Association. If not, go here to learn more.
In short, we are raising money for the Jacy Ray Fund, a pool of money that will help musicians and their families in our area in times of need, particularly medical emergencies or death. We’ve already been making gifts and our efforts are getting a lot of attention.
On Mother’s Day weekend we are hoping to get every performing act, in every venue, to help us in raising funds for the cause. If you are playing that weekend, please contact us and let us know. We will have collection boxes and brochures and all you have to do is encourage people to give during your show. We are also printing up a whole bunch of spiffy posters that have a space to fill in your gig details. We will be promoting the drive and listing all the participating performers and venues and this should go a long way toward bringing people out to your event.
We also need some volunteers to help distribute the materials and to possibly be on-hand at the venues during the weekend. To thank you we will host a collection event on Monday, May 9. We’ll let everyone know the details as we finalize that plan.
This will be an annual event but, as you might suspect, the first year is the hardest. So please respond as soon as you can. Our goal is to raise $15,000 which will help us establish an endowment fund.
Robert J is heading up this MAMA project. The Jacy Ray Fund is named after his son who nearly lost his life due to a brain infection. Though the family had insurance, it was not enough. A fundraiser netted much-needed funds for the family which covered most of the expense. Robert and his family wanted to give back and the program was hatched at MAMA headquarters. So here we are, getting this off the ground and once again showing the rest of the country what a special community we have in Madison.
